President's Report - June 2010
Sadly I have recently made the difficult decision to step down as NSW President of AIOP. Unfortunately the need to effectively balance a number of conflicting priorities in my personal and work life means that my role as NSW President is just not sustainable so I have decided to step aside sooner rather than later.
Volunteering for the AIOP Committee of Management is a huge commitment that is hard to appreciate unless you’ve done it. It takes a lot of passion for the role of the Office Professional and then dedication to AIOP from your personal life to get it all done. We may not always get it right, but the Committee of Management is always working hard to bring the members something they can be proud to be associated with, and I am very proud to have had the opportunity to work with these wonderfully dedicated people.
It is with great pleasure that I am able to tell you that Fina Nainoca will be stepping into the role of Acting President until the September AGM at which time the role will become open for election again. I am hoping that the next 4 months will help to boost Fina’s confidence and encourage her to run for President-elect at the AGM. I know she will excel in this role and I’m sure you’ll support me and her in this.
So without further delay, I’ll hand you over the new Acting NSW President of AIOP, and she can tell you all about AIOP this month.
Thank you and best wishes
Lisa
(immediate past NSW President)
Greetings to you all
Welcome to my first In Touch June Special Edition President's Report. Firstly, I would like to acknowledge and thank our immediate past President, Lisa Ryan, whom not only is a valuable Executive Member of our NSW Division Committee of Management, but has also become a close friend and someone I admire. Lisa has been a crucial key person who has changed the style and effective way of running the Committee of Management on a volunteer basis for NSW. Her constructive professionalism and leadership has been excellent and has driven the Committee of Management to see a bigger picture and to enhance AIOP outside the box. We will miss her directiveness and assertiveness but I know that she believes in us and will be supporting and guiding us from the background. We wish her all the best of luck and success in her endeavours.
It's been a hectic few weeks already since our AIOP Gala Breakfast on Friday 7th May at the Westin Sydney. The Committee of Management have however, continued to be busy moving onto other commitments scheduled for this year. Due to the executive changes on the Committee of Management there have been a few issues that have taken priority and therefore have taken a lot of our attention. I would also like to take this time to acknowledge some very wonderful and hard working ladies who are committed and passionate members of the Committee of Management. These are Jenny McPeak - Newcastle President and her team, Rose Davis - Canberra Chair and her team, Menchie Youla - Marketing Officer, Ruth Nissim - Education Officer, Natalie Dawes - Newsletter/Web Officer, Stacey Alexander - Breakfast 2010 Chair/General Committee, Michelle Saffrett - PDE Officer, Althea Zinn - General Committee, Marjie Tangonan - General Committee/Parramatta Event Co-ordinator. We also welcome new recruit Elspeth Prince – as our New Finance Officer. At the same time we would like to bid farewell to Tara Keogh and Christine Tonous for their support and commitment to the Committee.
It's not easy volunteering to be part of the AIOP Committee of Management. It is a huge commitment of both your work time and your personal time to get it all done. That’s why AIOP needs a strong Committee of Management that are committed, passionate, professional and willing to be the leading business organisation for office professionals. After 47 years of managing as a volunteer non-for-profit organisation, we must be doing something right for our profession. Therefore, it is important that we continue to maintain AIOP as a strong and successful organisation.
To all our breakfast sponsors, PDE partners and to everyone who believes in us, we are forever grateful to you and your commitment. I hope that this relationship will continue as we endeavour to work together to a rewarding and successful partnership.
I have great plans and vision to move AIOP NSW Division forward. We are currently working towards some awesome upcoming events with Voi Designs (soon to be finalised) at Ivy, Australian Business Events Expo at the Convention Centre, our National Conference in Tasmania, our AGM event in September and our Christmas function at the GPO Sydney in November.
I encourage you all our wonderful members to visit our website, join the new Facebook Group chat for AIOP, support our PDEs by attending the events, talk to your networking groups, friends and colleagues about AIOP and be part of the Committee of Management which will enhance the strengths that you probably aren’t aware you have. Take me, for example, I started as a General Committee Member, before moving to Membership Officer, then to Vice President and now to (Acting) President. I must have done something right! In order for AIOP to keep moving forward and providing a better service, you need to jump in and be part of this Networking and Professional organisation.
I had the privilege of attending the Executive National Board Meeting in Melbourne on May 22nd & 23rd. Meeting with the other Presidents from all states was such an experience. There was so much enthusiasm and passion for AIOP. It was an extreme eye opener for me and I do believe under our National President’s, Patricia Kriel, leadership, AIOP is going to move forward from strength to strength.
I will also be attending the AIOP National Conference in Tasmania - July 26th & 27th. I do believe a few of our NSW Division members have already registered to attend. I look forward to meeting with you. I do encourage you all to attend and not to miss this wonderful event.
I look forward with great excitement and enthusiasm with this new role. And, I believe that from now until the AGM in September, I am able to put into practice what I've learned from both the past presidents, Menchie Youla and Lisa Ryan, with whom I have had the privilege to serve under.
With your support and your enthusiasm, the sky is the limit for our Division!
Thank you once again for your time.
Fina
